July Board Meeting

  • Attendees: Elizabeth Payne, Kat Payne, Erin Finney, Wendy Garvin, James Singer, Dennis Hanks

  • Announcement. ConCon has been postponed indefinitely

  • Committees

    • Bill Lee, Chair healthcare, goes up to legislature, will mentor us on procedures and people at the capitol. Needs to be in the next few weeks. Erin will set date. Wants it to be legislative committee only. Wendy will join. Jacquelyn Orton and Darin Mann

    • Kat will set up page on website for each committee

    • James is interim chair of platform committee, they’ve met twice, July 16th and 19th.

      • Looks at funding transparency, fighting for local dollars, labor unions, healthcare, women & people of color, looking at county level, opioid addiction, wage inequality, paid parental leave, public safety, police brutality, eliminating the platitudes. Marketing progressive values in terms moderates can digest. How will it resonate? What will get people to vote? Teaming up with the LDS caucus, focus on messaging to Mormons. Stop putting things like abortion on the table, discuss the health care services we should be making the conversation palatable and focusing on county level issues.

        • Economic issues

        • Housing crisis, prices up, wages not up

        • Support candidates in communities who are against big business payoffs for low paying jobs.  Erin Clavell

        • What is the Platform Committee’s purpose? Focus on county wide issues, and economics. Goal is to frame marketing message for progressives in the county in terms the middle can find palatable.

        • Debate on how to frame the committee’s message. “Articles of Faith?”

        • Rank choice voting on top 5 values the caucus wants to focus on.

        • Let Platform committee frame message of those issues so they can be palatable to moderate base.

        • Focus on the messaging being county based. Then work with state on ‘gaps’ in the state messaging.

        • Goal is to get people elected. What does that mean, in practical terms?

      • Put issues in Meme form for easy sharing, putting in terms of fiscal conservatives, framing messages to appeal to wider voter base, look at planks in larger platform to be more progressive.

      • Legislative committee 34-40.106 - no town or county can set their own minimum wage. But if the platform committee pushes a higher living wage, then legislative committee frames it in legal terms to push that message

      • Event committee, Kat to chair, Elizabeth to join

      • Erin to canvas for Sophia, will create an event on FB group

      • Kat to create phone banking event on Thursday, will bring back common themes from phone conversations

      • Postcard party? FB Messaging? Texting? Phone calls? Email?

    • Wendy to send link to submit questions, for sheriff forums. Elizabeth to frame question for sheriff forum

    • Erin will be on bylaw committee

    • More clarity on ranked choice voting, better ballots so people make less mistakes

    • Want another run of shirts - Wendy will post about who wants them and what sizes

    • Erin to write a bylaw about peaceful transition of online presences, bank accounts, web pages etc are owned by the caucus and will be passed on when leadership changes

    • Judicial committee in our bylaws - amend that when needed during conflicts, they will include a member of the state exec committee as a neutral presence - dennis abstained, motion carried

    • Further discuss the $27 cocktail party

    • New members of facebook group must sign up with nationbuilder and provide us the number. Wendy to write template

For voter registration, Wendy will bring tablet and hotspot 9th/9th on 9/16/17, we will share a booth with HD 26, Ken Pederson chair, Kat Queue vice chair
